Maureen Dowd, "Where’s the Oval Avatar?": Obama Tests Self-Driving Car

In her latest New York Times op-ed entitled "Where’s the Oval Avatar?" (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/16/opinion/maureen-dowd-oval-avatar.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=c-column-top-span-region&region=c-column-top-span-region&WT.nav=c-column-top-span-region), Maureen Dowd writes:

"The White House likes to use a phrase of tingling adventure to describe the president’s recent penchant for wandering the country talking to people: 'The bear is loose.'

. . . .

Yet, even as the world is roiling, the president’s desk is clean. As he flees gridlock and a Boehner lawsuit in Washington, the best news for Democrats is that Republicans are talking impeachment. The Democrats can actually make money on that. Obama seems fixated on both the photo-ops he’s doing and the ones he’s not doing."

Indeed, the president's desk is clean, and he is busy doing anything but governing while seeking to run down the clock on his scandal-ridden second term. Yesterday, Obama visited a research center in Virginia to test-drive a self-driving car. Was it just me who heard the president mumbling:

"If only there was a self-driving presidency . . ."

No, Obama did not say that. What he really did say:

"Man, this is so exciting. I haven’t been on the road in a long time."

In fact, he has recently been doing quite a bit of driving on the golf course.

What's that you say? Notwithstanding the fact that the July 20 deadline for reaching an agreement with Iran is quickly drawing near (yes, the Iranians played Obama for a sucker and had him dismantle the sanctions regime), Obama nevertheless attempted some additional statecraft this week: While condemning Hamas for refusing to agree to a ceasefire with Israel, he declared that even if the Egyptian-proposed ceasefire had gone into effect on Tuesday, "the status quo is unsustainable."

"Unsustainable"? Like America's national debt of $17.6 trillion?

Thanks, Barack. Please continue puttering around on the links. You can do much less damage that way.
