Nicholas Kristof, "Winds of War in Gaza": Selective Reporting as Usual

Nicholas Kristof is back to his old tricks. In a New York Times op-ed entitled "Winds of War in Gaza," Kristof writes (my emphasis in red):

"The suffering [in Gaza] has multiple causes. Israel sustains a siege that amounts to economic warfare on an entire population. Hamas provokes Israel, squanders resources and is brutal and oppressive in its own right. Egypt has closed smuggling tunnels that used to relieve the stranglehold, and it mostly keeps its border with Gaza closed. The 1.8 million Gazans are on their own, and one step forward should be international pressure on Israel and Egypt to ease the blockade."

This is the only mention of "tunnels" in Kristof's opinion piece. Needless to say, Kristof fails to point out that Hamas used much of the cement that was imported from Israel in recent years to build a vast network of tunnels extending into Israel, which was used for terrorist infiltration during the last war.

Ease the blockade? Allow more cement and steel into Gaza to build new tunnels and thousands of more rockets to attack Israeli civilians? Take a hike, Nick!

1 comment:

  1. Egypt reportedly is building a moat almost a mile wide along their border with Gaza, to destroy the tunnels that feed the various threats in the Sinai. All homes in the way were destroyed.

Guess the NYT can not process the concept of a military blockade.
