David Brooks, "The Courage of Small Things": Do Obama and Hillary Care About Genocide?

The Rwanda genocide claimed between half a million and one million lives in 1994. Bill Clinton was president of the United States at the time, and according to a Washington Post essay entitled "What did the Clinton administration know about Rwanda?" by Timothy Longman:

"We now know that Rwanda should have already been on the Clinton administration’s agenda when it took office in January 1993.

When President Bill Clinton flew to Rwanda in 1998 (in a trip in which he never left the airfield), he claimed that he simply didn’t know what was happening in Rwanda. We now have further evidence that Clinton’s claims were false. It is not that the U.S. government didn’t know what was happening in Rwanda. The truth is that we didn’t care."

Query: What did Hillary do about this at the time?

In his latest New York Times op-ed entitled "The Courage of Small Things," David Brooks writes about Clemantine Wamariya, who fled Rwanda to escape the horror in that country and "spent the rest of her young girlhood in refugee camps in eight African nations." Brooks concludes:

"We work hard to cram our lives into legible narratives. But we live in the fog of reality. Whether you have survived a trauma or not, the psyche is still a dark forest of scars and tender spots. Each relationship is intricacy piled upon intricacy, fertile ground for misunderstanding and mistreatment."

Sorry, David, but I don't understand any of this.

But as long as we're on the subject of genocide, do you remember how Obama promised to recognize the Armenian Genocide if he were to become president? This never happened, although Turkey's tyrannical Prime Minister Erdogen became one of Obama's best friends.

Now, Obama is working hard to sign an agreement with Iran, which will provide the mullahs with a nuclear arsenal with a minimum of 10 years, while funding Tehran's terrorist operations in Syria, Yemen and even distant Argentina. It doesn't bother Obama in the least that every week there is a new call from Iran for the annihilation of Israel. As we learn today from a Times of Israel article entitled "Ex-Iran president: Israel a fake, temporary regime" by Tamar Pileggi:

"Former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani told a Hezbollah-affiliated outlet that he was confident that the 'forged and temporary Israeli entity' would be wiped off the map, the state-run IRNA news agency reported. According to the report, Rafsanjani, often described by Western media as a moderate in Iranian politics, said that Israel was an alien existence forged into the body of a nation which would eventually be destroyed."

But why should that bother Obama, who desperately wants detente with Iran as part of his presidential legacy? And Obama's P5+1 partners? Genocide be damned! It's all about participation in the trade boom if sanctions against Iran are removed and Supreme Leader Khamenei gets his $50 billion signing bonus.

Nauseating . . .

  1. Rafsanjani's other quotes in Pileggi's report were lifted from the 1905 Russian edition of "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion", a fabricated document proven over and over again to be false: the Lie That Never Dies.

Sunnis (and Ron Paul) prefer Henry Ford's version, "The International Jew", which has far more translations available.

Anyway, the tea leaves seem to be pointing to a game of chicken, to see who walks away in Vienna.

Meanwhile, the US media is on Hillary-watch when they are not Trump-bashing, as if nothing else matters for the next 18 months.

Obama's only legacy? Bill Clinton must be relieved that he can now smoke legal Cuban cigars. Perhaps Obama will now get some Cuban doctors to save Medicaid in New York...

Sorry to not read the rest of David Brooks - sounds like he is trying to explain the long term toll on millions of individuals caught in the real global refugee crisis.

  2. No tea leaves here. Where is the free-range-not-kosher-chicken-entrail-reader for this? Maybe we just need to watch her eat kishkes?
