Peter Whoriskey, "For decades, the government steered millions away from whole milk. Was that wrong?": Who Hid My Ice Cream?

In a lead Washington Post article entitled "For decades, the government steered millions away from whole milk. Was that wrong?," Peter Whoriskey informs us:

"By warning people against full-fat dairy foods, the U.S. is 'losing a huge opportunity for the prevention of disease,' said Marcia Otto, an assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Texas, and the lead author of large studies published in 2012 and 2013, which were funded by government and academic institutions, not the industry. 'What we have learned over the last decade is that certain foods that are high in fat seem to be beneficial.'

. . . .

[T]he idea that spurning saturated fat will, by itself, make people healthier, has never been fully proven, and in recent years repeated clinical trials and large-scale observational studies have produced evidence to the contrary."

Okay, that does it! Which of the kids hid my ice cream container . . . and my vodka bottle? I intend to prove to the scientific world the benefits of mixing Rocky Road with Smirnoff every night - I hypothesize that vodka enhances the beneficial effects of LDL. You don't believe me? Check back in another 60 years!

On a more serious note, before gulping down all that full-fat milk, you might want to consider what else can find its way into cow juice, e.g., antibiotics and steroids. Or stated otherwise, the whole milk might not clog your veins, but it could find other ways of killing you.

Buy organic, or simply die with a blissful smile on my lips? Decisions, decisions . . .
